At its “AI Tour” event in London, the tech giant unveiled plans to empower businesses to create their own custom AI agents, marking a significant step forward in the evolution of enterprise AI. Salesforce, with its Agentforce platform, has already rolled out its custom AI agents.

For those who have experimented with AI in their businesses, the results have been, let’s say, less than stellar.

AI assistants right now are more like eager interns – full of potential but still needing plenty of supervision. They can handle basic tasks and sometimes surprise you with their capabilities, but they also make mistakes that leave you scratching your head.

What Makes These New AI Agents Different?

Microsoft’s new autonomous agents promise something different: proactive AI that can understand context, make decisions, and work independently. Unlike current AI assistants that simply respond to prompts, these agents could potentially:

History is filled with examples of businesses that failed to adapt to technological advancements. Remember companies like Blockbuster that refused to embrace streaming services? Or Kodak, which missed the boat on digital photography?

And we all know a “Bob” or “Jack” who stubbornly refused to adopt new technologies, clinging to his type writer and binders and insisting that computers and digital payments would never last. Eventually, loyal customers migrated to more tech-savvy businesses until he eventually had to shut down.
